| So,
my significant other and I decided to go
out for dinner. The conversation went
something like this: "Where do you
want to go?" "I don't know.
Why don't we try someplace we haven't
been before?" "O.K. What kind
of food do you feel like? Greek?
Italian? Chinese?. . ."
"Chinese sounds good. Where should
we go?"
We
wanted to try someplace that wasn't
right in the middle of downtown so we
took a short drive out the Old Island
Highway and found a little Chinese Restaurant
tucked away in the back corner of the
Colwood Plaza called Goodview Family
Restaurant. There was plenty of easy
parking only a few steps away from the
door. From the outside it looked like a
neighbourhood coffee shop and quite
frankly we weren't sure what to think.
When we walked through the door we found
a spacious and well appointed dinning
room. We were greeted immediately and
seated in comfortable chairs.
One
thing that struck me was the pleasant
feeling of this restaurant without
having music playing in the background.
As others came in it was obvious that
this restaurant has developed quite a
bit of repeat business because the
customers and the staff knew each other
by name.
We
looked over our menus and noted a wide
variety to choose from. At the table
next to us I noticed two boys, obviously
brothers, one eating chicken fingers and
fries while the other dug into a pretty
good looking burger. The adults at the
table were served steaming plates of
Chinese food, everyone was smiling and I
overheard someone say "Oh, I love
this stuff!"
Our
orders were taken (we each order
combination dinners) and within a few
minutes a nicely presented meal was laid
before us. The vegetables were crisp the
chow mein was perfect. The sweet and
sour pork was lean and the breaded
almond chicken was very tasty. We found
the food was not greasy and noted that
if you wanted no MSG you needed to
request it.
Overall
Goodview Family Restaurant gets great
marks. The food was great, the
atmosphere comfortable, and the service
was prompt and courteous without being
intrusive.
We
really liked this restaurant and will
certainly return.
